The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Muhammad III.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Graham Barton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Guyton in pick 67, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tykee Smith at No. 100 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A quiet steal in pick No. 102: TreVeyon Henderson for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Dallin Holker, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 181st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Curtis Jacobs here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
