Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Kevin Winston Jr., the No. 91 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Dylan Fairchild is a better player than pick 63 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 24 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Jake Majors, who had no business lasting to the 105th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at the 155th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
