The Commanders clearly saw something nobody else did in Ty'Ron Hopper, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Morgan in pick No. 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had cheaper options than Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 3, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Christian Mahogany in the 103rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ty'Ron Hopper this early at the 138th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Jalyx Hunt was the payoff at slot 181. The roster logic is harder to follow.
They paid up for Trey Knox at No. 220 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
