You build a draft on nights like this. Ryan Fitzgerald had no business being available in the 236th pick, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The cost of the Burch reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Charles Grant, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Burch at Round 3, Pick 7 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 79 with a little surplus value in Omarr Norman-Lott. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Rylie Mills is a better player than No. 146 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 176 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Davison Igbinosun at pick 191 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Kobe King in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Steal is underselling it; Ryan Fitzgerald at the 236th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They paid sticker price for Shilo Sanders in slot 253, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
