The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while wide receiver, tight end and other spots went begging.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Commanders paired the rookies with proven help, Justin Fields leading the way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 27 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 37 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A curious use of No. 102. Wide receiver, tight end and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
A slide stopped in pick No. 141, with Will Shipley worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Proctor. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Sheridan Jones in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
