Washington Commanders

The Commanders found their guy under center in Maye: B+.

The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Getting Oladapo where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In pick No. 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
In the 28th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 26
Jordan Morgan slid further than he should have, and pick 35 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 31
A clean, defensible pick in the 36th pick with a little surplus value in Quinyon Mitchell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 45
Devontez Walker at Round 2, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 76
They went early on Junior Colson in No. 67, and the value did not follow. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 98
Audric Estime in slot 100 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 124
They did well to land Justin Eboigbe in Round 4, Pick 31, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 150
Theo Johnson at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 151
They let Jaylin Simpson come to them and pounced at No. 162. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 166
Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 181 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Erick All · TE · rank 216
Nothing to complain about; Erick All went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
