The real work happened on the phones. The Commanders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. This is how you run a draft, and the A reflects it.
On value alone, Eichenberg makes the weekend a net positive. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Olumuyiwa Fashanu and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Bo Nix slid further than he should have, and the 36th overall pick is lovely value for the quarterback. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Graham Barton at Round 2, Pick 6 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Bralen Trice at the 40th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 67. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jacob Cowing in pick No. 100 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at No. 107, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Tommy Eichenberg in slot 141, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Andru Phillips in slot 181. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Isaiah Neyor higher than the 223rd pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
