The Commanders put a flag in the ground for Isaac TeSlaa, 156 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Walker steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Hit on Jalon Walker and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Deone Walker at the 61st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy little value on Tate Ratledge in No. 79, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ollie Gordon II in the Round 5 slot, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Julian Fleming at the 203rd pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Isaac TeSlaa at pick 236, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fred Davis at the 247th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
