The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Steven Parker at the Round 7 slot regardless, 129 picks early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Kandra. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kaleb Johnson in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Deone Walker, who had no business lasting to pick No. 79. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Luke Kandra still on the board at the 148th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing KeAndre Lambert-Smith in pick 207. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jasheen Davis at slot 238 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Steven Parker in No. 250, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
