The war room fell hard for Tyler Batty, and it showed at pick 168: 59 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They banked enough surplus on Brooks to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Royals. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jackson Slater. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Joshua Farmer at pick No. 127 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jeffrey Bassa slid further than he should have, and No. 148 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Brooks at Round 5, Pick 28 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Batty in Round 5, Pick 29 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Trey Zuhn III enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 207. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Jacob Parrish in the 238th overall pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a safety like Akili Arnold reach the 250th pick and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
