Washington Commanders

Good, not great, for the Commanders: B-.

The war room fell hard for Tyler Batty, and it showed at pick 168: 59 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They banked enough surplus on Brooks to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · JT Tuimoloau · DE-EDGE · rank 49
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Jalen Royals · WR · rank 63
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Royals. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.1 · Pick 102 · Jackson Slater · OG · rank 150
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jackson Slater. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.26 · Pick 127 · Joshua Farmer · DT · rank 123
Joshua Farmer at pick No. 127 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.9 · Pick 148 · Jeffrey Bassa · LB · rank 132
Jeffrey Bassa slid further than he should have, and No. 148 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.28 · Pick 167 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 127
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Brooks at Round 5, Pick 28 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.29 · Pick 168 · Tyler Batty · DE-EDGE · rank 227
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Batty in Round 5, Pick 29 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.29 · Pick 207 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 215
They liked Trey Zuhn III enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 207. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.20 · Pick 238 · Jacob Parrish · CB · rank 223
Value with a capital V on Jacob Parrish in the 238th overall pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.32 · Pick 250 · Akili Arnold · S · rank 210
You do not let a safety like Akili Arnold reach the 250th pick and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
