The Commanders clearly saw something nobody else did in Jalen McLeod, taking him 47 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Ersery where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Cor'Dale Flott pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Aireontae Ersery slid further than he should have, and the 61st pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Deone Walker higher than No. 79, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Tez Johnson at the 87th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Jalen McLeod, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jacob Parrish a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Ty Hamilton in pick No. 238, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Garrett Dellinger in No. 250, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
