The Commanders put a flag in the ground for Xavier Truss, 45 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
On value alone, Nolen makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
They robbed the room for Walter Nolen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Elic Ayomanor in the 79th overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Joshua Farmer all the way to slot 146, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Connor Colby in pick 203 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Truss in the Round 7 slot, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Justin Walley at pick No. 247 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
