Washington Commanders

The Commanders fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-.

The Commanders put a flag in the ground for Ben Sinnott, 36 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hartman.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
They paid sticker price for Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 21
In No. 27 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at the 36th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 39
No edge and no loss on Bralen Trice in slot 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 40; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
A reach for Cooper Beebe in pick 67; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 104
They took Khyree Jackson at par in Round 3, Pick 37, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 138
A wild overpay on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 102, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
Braelon Allen at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 173
They read the board right and Jaylan Ford was the payoff at slot 181. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 207
Sam Hartman is a better player than the 223rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
