After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Getting Franklin where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton at slot 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in No. 40, where Troy Franklin graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brenden Rice in the 67th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Ray Davis in Round 4, Pick 2, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Dallin Holker went about where he belonged in the 141st overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Curtis Jacobs in pick 181, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Sheridan Jones at pick 223 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
