After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Landing Mims that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
They let Amarius Mims come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 4. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Troy Fautanu at the 37th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Landon Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaheim Bell well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Nehemiah Pritchett in pick No. 141; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bryce Foster in No. 182 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Jordan Jefferson in the 225th overall pick; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
