The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Bo Nix, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They are betting Travis proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Bo Nix in the 23rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 40 with a little surplus value in Ja'Tavion Sanders. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Christian Haynes, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Payton Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Nothing to complain about; Andru Phillips went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Baker in the 101st pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Roger Rosengarten at No. 139 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Jaylin Simpson in the 142nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Travis well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Curtis Jacobs, who had no business lasting to pick 208. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Johnny Dixon at pick No. 222 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
