Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Reaching for Harrell left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
With wide receiver, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
The board had Troy Fautanu higher than pick 36, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Graham Barton in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 67 with a little surplus value in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with wide receiver, running back and other spots open.
Jaylen Harrell at No. 141 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Jared Wiley in the 181st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Maurice Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
