The war room fell hard for Collin Oliver, and it showed at pick No. 250: 70 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The Horton pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Aireontae Ersery slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Maxwell Hairston in pick 79 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tory Horton in slot 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ethan Downs this early at Round 6, Pick 29. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Trevor Etienne was still sitting there in No. 238, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Collin Oliver at pick 250 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
