The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Commanders indulged a want in Gray while a need in tight end, running back and other spots stayed open.
They will need King to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That Taylor-Demerson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

R2.4
· Pick 36
· Tyler Guyton

Value with a capital V on Tyler Guyton in the 36th pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.7
· Pick 39
· Jordan Morgan
· OT
· rank 35
Jordan Morgan in the 39th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.30
· Pick 62
· Junior Colson
· LB
· rank 50
Junior Colson is a better player than Round 2, Pick 30 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.20
· Pick 84
· Austin Booker
· DE-EDGE
· rank 82
No drama and no debate, Austin Booker went about where he belonged in No. 84. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.36
· Pick 99
· Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
· S
· rank 83
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 99th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.1
· Pick 101
· Javon Baker
· WR
· rank 95
Javon Baker at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.18
· Pick 118
· Cedric Gray
· LB
· rank 126
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with tight end, running back and other spots open.
R4.27
· Pick 127
· Kalen King
· CB
· rank 140
A reach on Kalen King in No. 127; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.5
· Pick 141
· Tykee Smith
· S
· rank 147
They took Tykee Smith at par in pick 141, which is nothing to complain about. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
