Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Nate Wiggins was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Worthy in the 40th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 67 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Marshawn Kneeland at the 78th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land Brenden Rice in slot 100, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Dillon Johnson in No. 152, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 215. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Julian Pearl in pick 222 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
