The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kyle McCord, the No. 196 name on the board, in No. 236. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
If JT Tuimoloau and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Fair-plus on Donovan Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Karene Reid all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Oscar Delp in Round 6, Pick 16 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Deion Burks at slot 203 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kyle McCord at No. 236 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Terion Stewart went about where he belonged in the 237th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
