Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ozzy Trapilo got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at pick 148. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Fair-plus on TreVeyon Henderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A quiet steal in slot 79: Deone Walker for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Ozzy Trapilo at No. 148 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Dorian Strong at the 207th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Hancock in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Carson Vinson reach the 250th overall pick and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
