If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Slaughter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Chris Johnson in the 38th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jake Slaughter in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
CJ Daniels in Round 5, Pick 7 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Aamil Wagner at pick No. 187 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Le'Veon Moss in pick 209; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Jimmy Rolder at the 223rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Robert Spears-Jennings slipping to No. 243 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
