The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Dwight McGlothern slide 61 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Bell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid a round early for Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in pick 40, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Circle this one: Xavier Legette at pick No. 67 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Christian Mahogany well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Audric Estime. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Jaheim Bell in No. 139 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dillon Johnson in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
