Somebody in slot 71 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Dillon Thieneman, the No. 35 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get a featured back at fair value.
You do not let a safety like Dillon Thieneman reach No. 71 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Will Lee III at pick No. 147 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 187th pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Justin Jefferson in pick 209 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They did well to land Jeremiah Wright in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
