The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
That McCoy pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
They took Keon Coleman at par in slot 35, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 36th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jordan Morgan at pick 39 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Kris Jenkins all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Graham Barton in Round 3, Pick 37, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 107, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cade Stover at the 144th overall pick is the proof. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in the 185th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Bru McCoy at Round 7, Pick 8 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
