After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 4: Cooper DeJean for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at slot 40 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bralen Trice in No. 67 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cade Stover in pick 78. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Renardo Green here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Keegan. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Hunter Nourzad at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steele Chambers at the 222nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
