The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Mitchell pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Taliese Fuaga at the 36th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Troy Fautanu at slot 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quinyon Mitchell at No. 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Luke Lachey in Round 3, Pick 37 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 104 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Mohamed Kamara is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
They let Lathan Ransom come to them and pounced at the 182nd overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Foster at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
