The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dominic Zvada fell into No. 236. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The cost of the Griffith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 30 they get an enforcer at safety, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Harold Fannin Jr. in the 61st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tight end of that caliber at the 79th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a linebacker like Demetrius Knight Jr. reach pick 107 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Danny Stutsman at No. 146 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
By-the-book stuff, Miles Frazier at pick No. 203 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dominic Zvada at Round 7, Pick 20 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
