Washington Commanders

The Commanders won the night they stopped Zvada from sliding. Grade: B.

The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dominic Zvada fell into No. 236. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The cost of the Griffith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 16
In slot 30 they get an enforcer at safety, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Harold Fannin Jr. · TE · rank 35
Harold Fannin Jr. in the 61st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 43
A tight end of that caliber at the 79th pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 65
You do not let a linebacker like Demetrius Knight Jr. reach pick 107 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.9 · Pick 146 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 85
Danny Stutsman at No. 146 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 208
By-the-book stuff, Miles Frazier at pick No. 203 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.20 · Pick 236 · Dominic Zvada · PK · rank 95
Dominic Zvada at Round 7, Pick 20 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 280
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
