The Jaishawn Barham pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 56 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. However the rest shakes out, Cameron at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
So much rides on Sonny Styles that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.18
· Pick 18
· Sonny Styles
· LB
· rank 21
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. More want than need.
R3.7
· Pick 71
· Jaishawn Barham
· LB-EDGE
· rank 127
Jaishawn Barham in slot 71 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
R3.8
· Pick 72
· Austin Barber
· OT
· rank 109
They left a pile of value on the table to take Austin Barber this early at Round 3, Pick 8. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.10
· Pick 110
· Ted Hurst
· WR
· rank 89
They will replay Ted Hurst at the 110th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.7
· Pick 147
· Oscar Delp
· TE
· rank 131
Oscar Delp slipping to the 147th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.12
· Pick 152
· Trey Moore
· LB-EDGE
· rank 178
A big swing on Trey Moore at pick No. 152, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
R5.37
· Pick 177
· Domani Jackson
· CB
· rank 174
A clean, defensible pick in slot 177 with a little surplus value in Domani Jackson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.28
· Pick 209
· Josh Cameron
· WR
· rank 185
Taking Josh Cameron in No. 209 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.2
· Pick 218
· Logan Fano
· DE-EDGE
· rank 258
They reached a country mile for Logan Fano at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.7
· Pick 223
· Keyshaun Elliott
· LB
· rank 217
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keyshaun Elliott in pick 223. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
