The Commanders did not so much draft Thor Griffith as overpay for him, 76 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Getting Taylor where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with tight end chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter.
They will replay Jalon Walker at pick No. 62 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled Colston Loveland all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 107 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Mason Taylor in No. 146 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Addison West in slot 172; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Thor Griffith at pick 203 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaishawn Barham in slot 236 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Garrett Dellinger in the 247th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
