You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Sam Hartman in the 215th pick.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Abrams-Draine pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.

In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.18
· Pick 18

In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.29
· Pick 29
· Ja'Tavion Sanders

No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in pick 29. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.4
· Pick 36
· Edgerrin Cooper
· LB
· rank 47
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in the 36th pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.8
· Pick 40
· Jordan Morgan
· OT
· rank 37
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jordan Morgan in the 40th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· T.J. Tampa
· CB
· rank 49
T.J. Tampa in Round 3, Pick 3 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.14

· rank 73
Cade Stover at the 78th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.37
· Pick 100
· Kris Abrams-Draine
· CB
· rank 80
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 100 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.16
· Pick 152
· Jaylin Simpson
· CB
· rank 136
Value with a capital V on Jaylin Simpson in the 152nd overall pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.40
· Pick 215
· Sam Hartman
· QB
· rank 258
Sam Hartman in No. 215 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
R7.2
· Pick 222
· Solomon Byrd
· DE-EDGE
· rank 257
Solomon Byrd at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.31
· Pick 251
· Richard Jibunor
· OLB-EDGE
· rank 269
A big swing on Richard Jibunor at pick No. 251, well ahead of any board in the building. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
