Washington Commanders

The Commanders bet the future on Nix. The board says B.

The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The Rosengarten pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 24
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 28
Keon Coleman slid further than he should have, and No. 36 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 44
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ennis Rakestraw Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Rod Moore · S · rank 70
Rod Moore at pick No. 67 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 105
Audric Estime at the 100th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 109
A straight-up fair deal on Marshawn Kneeland at Round 4, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 133
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Javon Foster at pick 141. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Kaden Prather · WR · rank 175
Kaden Prather in the 181st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.22 · Pick 197 · Steve Linton · LB-EDGE · rank 189
A slide stopped in the 197th overall pick, with Steve Linton worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 201
Roger Rosengarten in Round 6, Pick 42 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 213
Omar Speights at No. 219 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Zakhari Franklin · WR · rank 215
The board had Zakhari Franklin higher than the Round 7 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
