This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Will Howard, the No. 108 name on the board, stolen at slot 148.
Every board in the league had Roberts lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 30 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tate Ratledge a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Demetrius Knight Jr. was still sitting there in the 79th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jordan Phillips in slot 119 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Elijah Roberts in the 142nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Will Howard in No. 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Reed went about where he belonged in pick 181. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Jason Marshall Jr. at Round 6, Pick 29 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jake Briningstool in slot 238 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Sam Brown at the 250th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
