Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Rice falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Jayden Daniels went about where he belonged in the 2nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 36 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 40 with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chris Braswell at No. 67 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 78th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brenden Rice at Round 5, Pick 3 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Jaylan Ford in Round 7, Pick 2 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
