Call it larceny. Harold Perkins Jr. sat on the board until pick 202, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The Dellinger pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 19 they get an enforcer at safety. More want than need.
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in No. 80, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in slot 84: Gunnar Helm for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quinshon Judkins at the 147th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Lathan Ransom in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 202 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They jumped the gun on Garrett Dellinger, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Aydan White a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
