You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Commanders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D+.
The Sturdivant value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The veteran additions, Bobby Okereke chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Abdul Carter in pick 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quinshon Judkins at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled J. Michael Sturdivant all the way to pick No. 148, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Rylie Mills in slot 156 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Jake Briningstool still on the board at the 217th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
