You can hear the double-takes from here. The Commanders took Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 2, roughly 44 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. However the rest shakes out, Turner at that price is a win they earned.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 30 they get juice off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
A big swing on Theo Johnson at slot 102, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Travis in No. 141 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 6 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Restrepo in pick No. 223 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
