The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Jackson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, offensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bralen Trice at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Bullard at the 67th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Tykee Smith in No. 100 leaves tight end, offensive lineman and other spots for later.
No drama and no debate, Donovan Edwards went about where he belonged in slot 102. It fills a real need, too.
Khyree Jackson at the 141st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Theo Wease, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 3, with Omar Speights worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
