Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
That Muasau pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Trotter Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The Commanders paired the rookies with proven help, Derrick Henry leading the way.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They reached into another round for Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach for Blake Corum in the 67th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brenden Rice at the 68th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Tykee Smith, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Travis in pick 141; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jonah Monheim is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jacob Cowing in No. 198 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Darius Muasau at pick No. 223 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
