The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Fuaga that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Taliese Fuaga in slot 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Adonai Mitchell higher than the Round 2 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Kamren Kinchens in Round 3, Pick 3, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Khyree Jackson at No. 78 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Washington in the 100th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 139 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at pick 152. It fills a real need, too.
Myles Harden slipping to the 222nd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
