They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Mims pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Amarius Mims is a better player than No. 36 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Payton Wilson at par in Round 2, Pick 8, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in the 67th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Laube in pick No. 138 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land AJ Barner in the 165th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Walter Rouse at pick 181 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Tanor Bortolini went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
