Washington Commanders

The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

However the rest shakes out, Simpson at that price is a win they earned. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

The Commanders indulged a want in Gray while a need in edge rusher, running back and other spots stayed open. Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 54
They jumped the gun on Kingsley Suamataia, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 125
A big swing on Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 131
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 117 on Cedric Gray with edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 139
Dallin Holker at slot 141 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 145
Javion Cohen at the 153rd overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 147
You do not let a cornerback like Jaylin Simpson reach the 181st pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 178
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Javon Baker in pick No. 193. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Aaron Frost · OT · rank 243
A wild overpay on Aaron Frost in the 223rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
