The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Landing Gore Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Tyler Guyton in No. 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kamren Kinchens in Round 2, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Chris Braswell at slot 40 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 67 with a little surplus value in D.J. James. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Nelson Ceaser enough to skip the value, taking him in the 102nd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Jacob Cowing slid further than he should have, and pick No. 107 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Javion Cohen in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Ty'Ron Hopper higher than Round 5, Pick 25, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick 181 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Maurice Smith well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
