If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Kyron Drones at the 192nd pick is 137 spots clear of where he belonged.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jackson. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Charles Grant in pick No. 56 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tai Felton at slot 84 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Deontae Lawson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in the 131st overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 133 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at pick 149 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sonny Styles at slot 188 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Value said wait; Kyron Drones in the 192nd overall pick says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Elijah Arroyo at par in No. 196, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ja'Quinden Jackson in Round 7, Pick 16 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
DJ Campbell at pick No. 237 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Xavier Nwankpa all the way to the 246th pick, and they scooped it up. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
