If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Mason Fairchild at Round 7, Pick 8 is 159 spots clear of where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Keon Coleman at No. 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 39 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fair-plus on Jack Sawyer, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Marshawn Kneeland in pick No. 100; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tate Ratledge in the 107th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Mike Sainristil at Round 5, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in slot 185, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Mason Fairchild, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
