Washington Commanders

The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

The cost of the Jacobs reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · JT Tuimoloau · DE-EDGE · rank 29
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in JT Tuimoloau. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 50
Tyler Guyton at No. 40 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 47, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 74
Johnny Wilson at slot 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Max Melton · CB · rank 114
Max Melton at the 100th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Donovan Jackson · OG · rank 117
The board had cheaper options than Donovan Jackson at the 102nd pick, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 160
Value said wait; Keith Randolph Jr. in pick 141 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 202
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Curtis Jacobs well ahead of where he belonged. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Jason Henderson · LB · rank 233
A reach on Jason Henderson in the 223rd pick; the board had better options right there. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
