The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Bailey left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in the 25th pick with a little surplus value in Denzel Burke. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
T.J. Sanders at the 79th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
J. Michael Sturdivant in pick 113 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Warren at No. 121 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
David Bailey in slot 132 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Zach Rice at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Jaishawn Barham at par in Round 6, Pick 14, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Kaidon Salter at pick 177 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
