You build a draft on nights like this. Jay Higgins had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If Green pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Their trades came out a wash either way.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had Benjamin Morrison higher than pick No. 56, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Tyler Warren was still sitting there in slot 78, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Jaeden Roberts enough to skip the value, taking him in the 147th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at the 198th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Taylen Green at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Harold Perkins Jr. at No. 239 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
