The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
McCormick has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on Adonai Mitchell in the 36th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Mike Sainristil in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Renardo Green in the 100th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Mason McCormick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fabien Lovett at pick No. 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Drake Nugent at pick 179 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tip Reiman in the 222nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
